Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story movie debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
