In the final seconds, sheer ecstasy erupted for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández bundled in a last-gasp equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola in a state of despair and handed the temporary Chelsea manager a truly golden moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch, making the recollection of Fernández's crucial intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old throughout his career.

A Stark Contrast in Experience

On the City bench was the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with 40 trophies for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, was a one-time trainer at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and stepped up to make his senior managerial bow after being temporarily promoted from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.

Factoring in a slew of absences, most notably Chelsea's important midfielder Moisés Caicedo (suspended) and goalkeeper Robert Sánchez (injured), McFarlane's task began as a mission that seemed close-to-impossible.
