Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the other racer in realistic title contention, lying 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at Turn Four during the early running.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a slight brush of the barrier.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, just behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
