Assassin's Creed Unveils Unexpected Attack on Titan Collaboration for Holiday Season
In a bizarre crossover event that breaks usual predictions, the game developer has unveiled an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual Thanksgiving event operates from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary bonus story content for Shadows players.
Peculiar Mission Disclosed
According to the official release, "A mysterious meeting draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new adventure, where rumors of prohibited ceremonies and fearsome transformations reverberate through the obscurity." The plot features a "strangely dressed woman named Ada" who charges the pair with venturing into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her companion from a clandestine sect.
The mission focuses on "bizarre experiments and a monstrous adversary" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.
Familiar Places and Metamorphoses
The preview showcases the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was formerly where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through generations. The trailer concludes with a powerful sequence showing a character, probably the prisoner, transforming into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.
Special Prizes and Extra Features
Players who successfully complete the quest will obtain an special katana alongside several objects secreted throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:
- Titan-inspired costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa outfit for Naoe
- Exclusive implements
- Survey Corps vehicle
Latest Free Story Addition
This release also adds the game's third free story content, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted mission partners Naoe and Yasuke as they exchange distinctive skills: Naoe debuts a theatrical version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Enigma" also contains a fresh environmental puzzle that may eventually explain some unanswered questions from the main storyline.
Past Japanese Animation Collaborations
This represents hardly the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime series. The series previously included a 2020 cross-promotional story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla subtly included a quest that clearly nodded to the famous series One-Punch Man.
